In 1926, Edgar Charles Birch set up shop in Melbourne’s Flinders Lane with only 100 pounds and a suitcase of sewing needles, safety pins, press studs and elastic.

His very first customers were Melbourne’s department stores, who came to depend on Edgar’s range of quality imported haberdashery goods.

As Edgar’s family joined him in business, he was able to expand the company across Australia, and he soon began embarking on international buying trips to source the most up-to-date products. With growing contacts in the industry, it wasn’t long before a larger premises was required.

Since our humble beginnings, we have only continued to grow. Today, we operate out of Australia and New Zealand, and our products are available worldwide.

While we still retain a strong focus on haberdashery, our range now includes an impressive selection of craft brands, including our very own Birch label.

To this day, Birch Creative remains a family owned and operated business, with four generations of the family working in the company who are all proud to continue Edgar’s legacy.

More than 90 years later, the Birch name remains synonymous with quality, value, and outstanding customer service.
